I visited our exhibition again… and noticed this on the studio floor. It’s from a painting I did with orange fluoro paint and glitter and the painting fell on the floor and Xavier made it into a drawing.

It made me think of the signs and evidence we leave behind us, that show we were here, both tangible and intangible.

The words of Karen Blixen from Out of Africa came to my mind…
If I know a song of Africa, does Africa know a song of me? Will the air over the plain quiver with a color that I have had on… or will the eagles of the Ngong Hills look out for me?

Yes, I’m getting sentimental about finishing the year, and leaving my studio.

The VU studios are a hive of activity, with all of us trying to get our work finished, our studio spaces painted, and our work hung and installed by next Wednesday… eek.

Meanwhile, here’s a glimpse of my new collage/installation work…

My new painting in progress… about half finished. It’s based on a photo of coral underwater (very loosely) and using acrylic and oil paint.

I haven’t finished the random geometric one yet… I’m still thinking about what to do next.

My latest painting uses geometric shapes again. I based the composition on a random arrangement of cut-out shapes then added new layers with transparent paint. Next I think I’ll add some drippy sections as a contrast.

My studio has moved! To cut a long story short, a student dropped out of our art studios, then I swapped studios with another student, then a third student swapped with me… now I’ve got a studio with a window view looking down onto Melbourne city from the 17th floor… Sweet!

What’s on my walls and desk today…
